B. Dana Kivel is a professor of Recreation, Parks, and Tourism Administration at Sacramento State University (CSUS) and director of the Community Engagement Center at CSUS.
Prior to this, Kivel taught tennis in a summer parks program, wrote for a daily paper in Texas and a national feminist newspaper in Washington, D.C., worked on a Quaker farm/summer camp in Vermont, and cofounded and directed the Lavender Youth Recreation and Information Center (LYRIC).
Celebrating its 28th anniversary in 2016, LYRIC is a nonprofit, social/recreational program in San Francisco for young people who self-identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender.
Kivel taught at the University of Northern Iowa and the University of North Carolina. In 2001, she received a Leverhulme Research Fellowship to live and work abroad in Leeds, England.
