Downloading ebooks from Sagamore for PC and Mac

My eBook does not open

  1. Create your own Adobe ID and account, at www.adobe.com
    (click 'Get an Adobe ID' in the page that opens)
  2. Download and install Adobe Digital Editions software
    (Use the link to the installer for your operating system - not the App Store or Google Play links)
  3. After installing ADE, go to your Sagamore My Account page, select the eBooks tab and then click on the title of the your eBook
  4. Adobe Digital Editions will open, and display your ebook
    (a large ebook file may take a few seconds to open)

If your eBook does not open with Adobe Digital Editions, you may have to perform one or all of the procedures listed below to correct the issue.

1. Clicking on your ebook link produces an error in Adobe Digital Editions

With Adobe Digital Editions open, click the 'Help' menu.

If 'Authorize Computer' is not greyed out and clickable, click it and enter your email address and Adobe ID. This will authorize your computer and allow ebooks to open.

2. Clicking on your ebook link downloads the 'urllink.acsm' file but does not open Adobe Digital Editions

For Windows:

Go to Start-->Control Panel-->Default Programs-->Associate a file type or protocol with a program

The “Associate a file type or protocol” window will pop up.

Under the “Extensions” heading, select '.acsm' and click the “Change program…” button.

The “Open With” dialog box is displayed.

Click the “Browse…” button.

A second “'Open With” dialog box is displayed.

Browse to
'C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Digital Editions x.x' and select 'digitaleditions.exe'

or

'C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Digital Editions x.x' and select 'digitaleditions.exe'.

Click “Open”.

Adobe Digital Editions is now set to open ACSM files automatically.

For a Mac

Control-click the 'urllink.acsm' file and select 'Get Info'.

The 'urllink.acsm Info' window is displayed.

Expand the 'Open with:' section and click 'Other…'.

A list of programs is displayed.

Select 'Adobe Digital Editions'.

Check the 'Always Open With' checkbox.

Click the 'Add' button.

Close the 'urllink.acsm Info' window.

Adobe Digital Editions is now set to open ACSM files.

3. You get an 'activation error'

For Windows:

Close all applications.

Choose Start > Run.

In the Open text box, type regedit and then press Enter. The Registry Editor opens.

In the left pane of the Registry Editor, locate the following registry key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Adept

Select the Adept key.

Choose File > Export.

In the Export Registry File dialog box, select Selected Branch under Export Range. Enter a name and location for the backup registry key, and then click Save.

Right-click the Adept key and choose Delete.

In the Confirm Key Delete dialog, click OK.

Close the Registry Editor.

Open Adobe Digital Editions and reauthorize.

For a Mac:

Older OS (older than 10.7):
Quit Adobe Digital Editions.

Navigate to /Users//Library/Application Support/Adobe/Digital Editions and drag the activation.dat file to the trash.

Open Adobe Digital Editions and reauthorize.
 
Newer OS (10.7 or newer):
Close (do not hide or minimize) Adobe Digital Editions.

In the Finder, choose Go > Go to Folder.

In the Go To Folder dialog box, type ~/Library

Click Go.

Open ‘Application Support’ folder.

Open ‘Adobe’ folder.

Open ‘Digital Editions’ folder.

Drag ‘activation.dat’ file to the trash.

Open Adobe Digital Editions.

Under the ‘Help’ menu, select ‘Authorize computer’ and enter the email address and Adobe ID password for your Adobe account.

Then clicking on the link to your ebook on your Sagamore account page should fulfill and open ebook.

4. Procedure to follow if the above are unsuccessful

First, go to adobe.com and log in using your Adobe ID to confirm that your credentials work

For Windows:

On your Sagamore My Account Ebooks page, right-click the link to your ebook and select 'Save Link as...' and save the URLLink.acsm file in your Downloads folder.

Open Adobe Digital Editions

At top left, click the 'Llibrary' button.

Click the ‘File’ menu – then select the first option: ‘Add to library.’

In the window that opens, make sure your Downloads folder is selected in the left column.

Then, at the bottom right of that window, above the ‘Open’ button, make sure the dropdown has ‘Adobe Content Server Message’ selected.

In the window, select a file that’s named ‘URLLink.acsm.’ (it might have a number in parentheses in the filename)

Click the ‘Open’ button.

Your ebook should then open.

For a Mac;

On your Sagamore My Account Ebooks page, right-click the link to your ebook and select 'Download Linked File as...' and save the URLLink.acsm file in your Downloads folder.

Open Adobe Digital Editions

From the 'File' menu, select 'Add to Library.'

Navigate to your Downloads folder and then select 'ACSM files' from the 'Show' dropdown. (You may need to click the 'Options' button to display the 'Show' dropdown.)

In the Downloads window, select a file that’s named ‘URLLink.acsm.’ (it might have a number in parentheses in the filename)

Click the ‘Add’ button.

Your ebook should then open.

You will not need to repeat the items above should you wish to purchase another eBook. However, in order to access an eBook on a different media device (ex: laptop, Nook, Sony Reader) you will need to download the Adobe Digital Editions software or other application onto that device.
